Volunteer Week
Plymouth is a fantastic place to call home, visit or do business. There are a number of reasons for that, but the big advantage we have is the city’s volunteer program.

Recognition
This week marks National Volunteer Week, and I’d like to take a moment and share – on behalf of myself and the city – the sincere appreciation we have for each and every one of you who generously donate time, talent and dedication to make the community a better place.
We count on our city staff to keep the city running, and they do an excellent job. However, volunteers are the icing on the cake – accomplishing things that we simply couldn’t without your help. Whether it’s taking care of a park, helping out at events or using specialized skills to lend a hand, you enhance the amenities and services our residents rely on and appreciate.
Volunteering
This week, the city will share some of your stories and shine a light on a handful of the incredible skills that the volunteer program offers. Keep an eye on the city’s Facebook page to see featured volunteers throughout the week.
I’d also like to take a moment to welcome new Volunteer Coordinator Steve Frankhouser to the position. I’m sure many of you have had the opportunity to meet Steve, and I think you’ll agree that his infectious enthusiasm is just what the program needs. The legacy and strength of the volunteer program under Jackie Maas has set the stage for Steve’s work as he grows the program into the future.
As we reflect on the past year of volunteering and embrace a new era of the program, I’d like to wholeheartedly thank you all for the selfless act of volunteering. You’re not required to spend your time fighting invasive species or assembling mailings or preserving city history – but you do it because you care about your community.
Plymouth is truly a place greater than the sum of its parts, and a huge part of the equation is our amazing volunteers – all of whom seem genuinely driven by kindness, compassion and service.
